OUR JOURNEY

Journey Community Church began in 1815 with 17 people gathering in a log schoolhouse along Big Darby Creek just south of Plain City. As this faithful community centered their lives together on Jesus Christ and His mission of making disciples of all people, they grew in numbers and began meeting in various facilities throughout the years. The facility built in 1901 was “home” to for over 100 years until it was sold and the 200+ year-old congregation chose to operate like a new church plant, meeting in the Jonathan Alder High School gym for two years while a new facility was built.

We began ministry in our new facility at 11100 Lafayette Plain City Road in fall of 2018. We’ve been serving Plain City for over 200 years, but we have carried out this ministry under different names: Pleasant Valley Methodist Church, Plain City Methodist Episcopal Church, and Plain City United Methodist Church. In fall of 2022, we voted to exit the United Methodist denomination, and we became a member of the Global Methodist Church on January 1, 2023. Our registered legal name is now Plain City Global Methodist Church, but we continue “doing business as” Journey Community Church. We are grateful for our rich heritage and excited about a hopeful future!

The mission of the Global Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly. We are part of the Allegheny West Provisional Annual Conference of the GMC, which serves all of Ohio and the western third of Pennsylvania. We are excited to be part of reviving a distinctively Wesleyan expression of Methodism in our region.
